OUR IMPACT

Cambodia Charitable Trust partners with Cambodian educators and leaders to strengthen teaching, improve learning and expand opportunity for children.

Long-Term Educational Change

Since 2008, Cambodia Charitable Trust has worked alongside Cambodian educators, schools and communities to strengthen educational opportunities and outcomes for children and young people.

Our work combines direct support with long-term investment in teachers, schools and educational systems.

Impact at a Glance

Since 2008:

  • 28 schools supported
  • 76 university graduates
  • 83 students currently in tertiary study
  • 11,000+ students reached annually
  • 113,000+ students supported with learning materials
  • 500+ bicycles distributed
  • 16 Provincial Teacher Training Centres supported
  • Observation Tool adopted by the Ministry of Education

From Local Support to Systemic Change

Cambodia Charitable Trust began by supporting children vulnerable to poverty and exploitation through access to education.

Over time, our experience demonstrated that long-term educational outcomes depend not only on access to school, but also on the strength of the systems surrounding children.

Our work has therefore evolved to include:

  • teacher development,
  • school leadership,
  • classroom practice,
  • tertiary pathways,
  • mentoring,
  • and educational system strengthening.

Today, CCT works alongside Cambodia’s Ministry of Education and local educators to support both individual opportunity and wider educational improvement.

Strengthening Teaching Practice

CCT has worked alongside Cambodia’s Teacher Training Department and Provincial Teacher Training Centres to support the professional development of primary teachers and trainers.

This work has included:

  • Lesson Study,
  • Enquiry Based Learning,
  • mentoring and feedback systems,
  • distance learning support during Covid-19,
  • and the co-development of the Observation Tool.

The Observation Tool was developed collaboratively with the Ministry of Education as both a formative and summative professional development tool and has now been formally adopted within Cambodia’s primary education system.

Investing in Young Women and Future Leaders

Education changes not only individual lives, but families and communities across generations.

More than 95% of CCT-sponsored students are girls and young women, and all current tertiary students and university graduates supported through CCT are women.

Many are the first in their families to complete secondary school or attend university.

Graduates are now contributing in areas including education, healthcare, administration, business and community leadership.

Responding During Covid-19

During extended Covid-19 school closures, CCT worked alongside schools, communities and the Ministry of Education to support continued learning and community wellbeing.

This included:

  • support for remote learning,
  • contribution to the 4E Distance Learning programme,
  • ICT and distance-learning workshops,
  • remedial education support,
  • and emergency rice distributions to more than 1,800 families.

CCT also supported 226 schools to continue educational delivery during the disruption caused by the pandemic.

Working Alongside the Ministry of Education

CCT has worked in long-term partnership with Cambodia’s Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport across multiple programmes and initiatives.

This partnership has included:

  • collaborative programme design,
  • teacher development,
  • educational workshops,
  • support for Provincial Teacher Training Centres,
  • and the development and implementation of the Observation Tool.

CCT’s work has been recognised by Ministry leadership as contributing to the strengthening of primary education and teacher capacity in Cambodia.
